Who is the Best Right Now?

Everyone has an answer. Mine comes from the numbers: the live ELO rating, how a team actually played its last ten, and how brutal the schedule was that built the record. One answer per side.

"Right now" needs a timestamp in this sport. The girls last played in November 2025; the boys walked off in late May 2026. These are the ratings as those seasons ended, and they hold until the girls kick off again in August.

The method is the site's usual one. The rating does the heavy lifting: it is the live ELO, updated through every team's final game. Form is the last ten results, no weighting, just what happened. And schedule is the percentile of each team's slate against the whole field that season, the same number on every team page, so a gaudy record built on soft opposition can't hide. Where those three agree, the answer is easy. Where they argue, I say so.

Method & Sources

Ratings are the site's live ELO, updated through each team's last completed game (boys: May 2026, girls: November 2025). Rankings cover active Tennessee programs with at least 30 rated games. Exact engine internals stay behind the curtain, as always; the Validation Report shows how the ratings hold up predictively.
Form is the raw last-ten record (a tie counts half). Schedule strength is the percentile of a team's average opponent rating among all teams that season, identical to the number shown on team pages. No live 2026-27 games are included; none have been played.
